Looking for a
Strong app alternative?

Strong is a popular workout logger on iPhone, and if it works for you, keep using it. If you'd rather not make an account, want a program to follow, and like the option to pay once, GymLogger X is worth a look. Its Apple Watch app is free, and its rest timer can tell you when your heart rate has recovered.

How does GymLogger X compare to Strong?

We won't claim GymLogger X is "better" than Strong. The two apps have different priorities, and these are the ones that matter most.

Account and privacy
GymLogger X: No account. Workouts stay on your iPhone and sync through your own iCloud, and the app carries no ads or third-party analytics.

Strong: Account required.
Apple Watch
GymLogger X: A free Watch app. Start the workout on the iPhone, then log weight and reps, run the rest timer, and see live heart rate on the wrist.

Strong: A standalone Apple Watch app that can log a whole workout without the iPhone.
Pricing
GymLogger X: Free logging; Pro $1.99/mo, $17.99/yr, or $39.99 once.

Strong: Free. Strong PRO is sold for 1 month, 6 months, or 1 year, and Strong PRO Forever is a lifetime purchase ($79.99 and $99.99 are both listed in the US App Store, checked 29 October 2026).
Built by
GymLogger X: Lagerland Apps, a small independent Apple studio in Finland.

Strong: An established workout-app company with years in the category.

About GymLogger X

Questions

FAQ

What is the best alternative to Strong workout app?
It depends on what you want to change. If it's the account, GymLogger X is worth a look: there is nothing to sign up for, logging and the Apple Watch app are free, and it adds 44 ready-made programs (6 free), a Smart Program Creator, and, with Pro, plateau and fatigue signals from your own logs. Pro is a subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase. If you need a standalone Watch app or a CSV export, Strong does those and GymLogger X does not.
Does GymLogger X work on Apple Watch?
Yes, and the Watch app is free. You start the workout on the iPhone, then log each set's weight and reps, run the rest timer, and see live heart rate on Apple Watch. Sets you log on the watch go through the phone, so the Watch app does not run a workout on its own; Strong's can.
Is GymLogger X free?
Yes, to download and to log with. The free version covers unlimited workouts on iPhone and Apple Watch, 1,500 exercises, one program at a time (6 free programs, your own, or one from the Smart Program Creator), 3 templates, the last 30 days of history, Apple Health export, and iCloud sync. Pro is $1.99 a month or $17.99 a year, each starting with a 7-day free trial, or $39.99 once.
Does GymLogger X track my personal data?
No. GymLogger X needs no account and carries no ads, third-party analytics, or advertising SDKs. The app has no server of its own: workouts are stored on your iPhone and sync through your own iCloud when you're signed in to iCloud, and finished workouts are saved to Apple Health.
Can I move my Strong history to GymLogger X?
If you can get your history out of Strong as a CSV file (Strong's export is a Pro feature), GymLogger X Pro can import it. The importer reads CSV, TSV, or TXT files, lets you map the columns, and matches exercise names to its library with a review step. It has no ready-made Strong preset, so expect to check the column mapping once.
