Looking for a
Steppin alternative?

Steppin earns you screen time as you walk: by default, 1 minute for every 100 steps. EarnLock asks for one daily goal instead. Halfway there, your apps open for an hour; at the full goal they stay open until midnight. Either model can work. EarnLock also starts with a Shadow Week that only counts, adds an Apple Watch app with Premium, and sells Premium as a one-time $19.99 purchase as well as monthly or yearly.

How does EarnLock compare to Steppin?

Steppin details come from its US App Store listing. Both apps turn steps into screen time; they differ in how the exchange works.

When should I pick Steppin instead?

Pick Steppin if any of these matter more to you than a daily goal and the Apple Watch app:

EarnLock is for the person who found the per-step model turned into a running negotiation: earn a few minutes, scroll, earn a few more. A daily goal is one decision, and halfway still earns an hour.

About EarnLock

Questions

FAQ

What is the best alternative to Steppin?
If you'd rather set one goal than earn minutes all day, EarnLock is a Steppin alternative built on a daily goal. It locks the apps you pick until you reach your goal in steps (free) or active minutes or active calories (Premium), measured by Apple Health. Halfway opens them for an hour, and the full goal opens them until midnight. Locking one app is free for good, and Premium includes an Apple Watch app and a one-time Lifetime option.
How is EarnLock different from Steppin?
Steppin converts steps into minutes as you walk. EarnLock measures your activity against one daily goal: halfway opens your apps for an hour, and 100% opens them until midnight. EarnLock also starts with a Shadow Week that blocks nothing and counts how often you would have been blocked, has an Apple Watch app with Premium, and comes in 39 locales. Steppin is iPhone only.
How much does EarnLock cost compared with Steppin?
Locking one app or category with a step goal is free for good, with partial and full unlocks, Shadow Week, streaks with a weekly rest day, the Insights Day view, every widget, and the emergency unlock. Premium adds unlimited apps, active minutes and active calories, the Apple Watch app, a Live Activity, Smart Schedules, and Week and Month insights for $1.99/month or $9.99/year, each with a 7-day free trial, or $19.99 once. All three support Family Sharing. Steppin's listing showed subscriptions only ($2.99 a week, $7.99 a month, or $29.99 a year) when this page was checked. Check both listings for current prices in your country.
Does Steppin work on Apple Watch?
Steppin's App Store listing shows an iPhone app only, with no Apple Watch app. With Premium, EarnLock's Apple Watch app reads its own Health data and shows your ring, your count, and how far you are from unlocking, with a Reflect button and circular, corner, inline, and rectangular complications. The iPhone is still the device that locks and unlocks your apps, and it passes your Premium status to the watch.
Steppin gives me minutes per step. Why does EarnLock use a daily goal instead?
A per-step exchange keeps you negotiating all day. A daily goal asks for one decision, and EarnLock softens it: halfway opens your apps for an hour right away, so a slow day still earns something, and the full goal opens them until midnight. If you choose Adaptive, the goal rises 3% after a day you hit it and eases 5% after a day you miss.
Which is more private, EarnLock or Steppin?
Both take privacy seriously. Steppin's App Privacy label reports no data collected. EarnLock has no account, makes no network connections of its own, and includes no third-party SDKs, and Apple Health is read on your iPhone and never written to or sent anywhere.
