A Convertio alternative
that keeps your files on your device.

Convertio is a handy browser converter, but every file uploads to its servers, and the free tier caps each file at 1 GB. MediaKit does the everyday conversions on your iPhone or Mac with more than 150 tools for video, audio, image, PDF, archive, and ebook files. It works offline, needs no account, and shows the estimated output size before you run a tool.

How does MediaKit compare to Convertio?

One is a web service, the other an app that works on your iPhone or Mac.

Where conversion happens
MediaKit: On your iPhone or Mac. Files never leave the device, so there's no upload to wait for.

Convertio: On remote servers, after an upload.
Limits
MediaKit: Five tools free for good, one file at a time. Pro adds every tool, batches, and unlimited exports.

Convertio: 1 GB per file on the free tier. Paid plans allow 1 GB to 20 GB per file and count use in monthly conversion credits (checked 29 October 2026).
Privacy and offline
MediaKit: No account, and it works offline. See the Privacy Manifest.

Convertio: Processed on their infrastructure; needs a connection.
Format breadth
MediaKit: The common formats across six kinds of file. No WebM, and no MP3 output.

Convertio: A very large catalogue of format pairs.

About MediaKit

Questions

FAQ

What is a Convertio alternative that works on-device?
MediaKit is an iPhone and Mac app that converts files on the device. Convertio is a web converter: your file uploads to its servers, and the free tier caps each file at 1 GB. MediaKit has more than 150 tools for video, audio, image, PDF, archive, and ebook files, and it needs no account.
Does MediaKit cap file size like Convertio?
MediaKit has no upload step, so a web plan's upload limit never applies. Your file is processed on your iPhone or Mac, and a long video takes as long as your device needs. Convertio's homepage listed a 1 GB maximum file size when we checked on 29 October 2026, and its paid plans count use in monthly conversion credits.
Is MediaKit more private than Convertio?
With Convertio your file is uploaded to a remote server for processing. MediaKit runs every tool on your device, and the app makes no network requests of its own. There is no account, and the app has no analytics SDK. MediaKit's Privacy Manifest is on the transparency page.
Can MediaKit convert as many formats as Convertio?
No. Convertio's catalogue of format pairs is far broader. MediaKit covers the common files on an iPhone or Mac: HEIC photos and camera RAW, MP4, MOV, and MKV video, audio written as M4A (AAC), WAV, AIFF, ALAC, or CAF, PDFs, ZIP and RAR archives, and DRM-free ebooks. It does not support WebM and cannot write MP3, so for those Convertio is the better pick.
Does MediaKit run on iPhone as well as Mac?
Yes. MediaKit runs on iPhone and Mac, and one purchase covers both. There is no iPad version. On iPhone you can send files in from the share sheet and save results to Photos. Convertio runs in any browser, on any device.
Does MediaKit work offline unlike Convertio?
Yes. Every tool runs on your device, so MediaKit works without a connection. The one exception is subtitle translation, which uses Apple's Translation language packs that macOS downloads the first time. Convertio needs a connection and an upload for every conversion.
How much does MediaKit cost compared to Convertio?
Five MediaKit tools are free for good, one file at a time: Video Compress, Image Compress, Image Resize, Audio Convert, and PDF Compress. Pro is $3.99/month or $22.99/year, each starting with a 3-day free trial, or $39.99 once. Convertio is free for files up to 1 GB. Its subscriptions started at $11.99 a month, or $6.99 a month billed yearly, when we checked on 29 October 2026.
